Hellboy is a comic book character created by Mike Mignola. He first appeared in 1993 in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2. All his mini-series, one-shots and spin-off series have been published by Dark Horse Comics. Mignola has been involved with all these issues.
Hellboy is a demon whose real name is Anung un Rama. He was brought to Earth as a child by Nazi occultists and was saved by the Allied forces. He was raised by the BPRD (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense) in the USA. From then on, Hellboy fought many paranormal entities for the Bureau.
Columbia produced a Hellboy movie directed by Guillermo Del Toro, released in 2004. Universal picked up the rights for the Hellboy sequel: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Mignola wrote both movies with Del Toro. The films feature Ron Pearlman as Hellboy.
Following the success of Hellboy, Mignola developped other related series such as BPRB, Abe Sapien, Lobster Johnson, Hellboy: Weird Tales and Hellboy Jr. Hellboy can be found in other media, such as animated series, online series and novels.
The series showcased in Adventures Into Digital Comics is Hellboy: The Third Wish. Hellboy leaves behind the familiar strangeness of the BPRD for even stranger places. He meets a 200-year-old witch doctor and talks to lions, but that's only the beginning of Hellboy's weirdest journey yet. The Third Wish is written and drawn by Mike Mignola with coloring by Dave Stewart and lettering by Clem Robins.
