Apocamon

[ Apocamon ]

Apocamon is a webcomic series by writer and artist Patrick Farley. The series is a literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation done in the style of the Pokemon cartoon series. The series is to be told in twelve episodes. Despite its short life, the series has already known many forms. The first two episodes were made available for free on Farley's website. Both were created with Flash. The reader had to click on the "next" button to reveal the following panel. From time to time, Farley would put a little bit of animation, sometimes within the panel, sometimes to go from one panel to the next. For the third episode, Farley originally offered the possibility to read the work for a micropayment via BitPass. More recently, Farley made the episode available via Serializer in two formats: Flash or HTML. The Flash episode remained faithful to the original style of the series, whereas the HTML format offered the story panel by panel. The last episode of Apocamon is offered via Serializer as just an HTML document. For his composition, Farley follows the idea of the expanded canvas. On his website, Farley showcases each and every Apocamon, with its particular characteristics and powers. Despite its many changes, Apocamon remains a unique experience ont he web, both in terms of style and content.

Apocamon: Episode 1 - The Seven Seals is the first Apocamon story, published in 2001. At the beginning of the story, John is a Christian who lives a bad life during the Roman Empire era, on the island of Patmos. As he prays (after being stepped upon by a few Romans), John prays and is visited by One Like Unto The Son Of Man, a man whose face radiates such an intense light it remains unseen. John is invited to enter Heaven to be the witness of things to come. He's introduced by a drone angel to a bunch of elders in order to become the scribe of things to come. A strange creature called the Proclaimer shows him a scroll with seven seals, but no one is able to break the seals, no one except for a slaughtered lamb with seven horns and seven eyes. The lamb slowly opens the first six seals, bringing huge destruction to Earth's inhabitants. At the end of the episode, the lamb has just broken the seventh seal...

Apocamon: Episode 2 - The Seven Trumpets is the second Apocamon story, also published in 2001. The episode begins with the destruction of the White House by one of the seven angels equipped with huge trumpets. John keeps being a privileged witness of the upcoming events, as a behind-the-scene scribe. The drone angel explains the procedure: each angel is going to use one trumpet to bring a specific type of devastation to Earth. At the consecutive sound of a few trumpets, destruction is brought to Earth, first on the ground, then in the seas. As the earthlings bury their dead, a key opens a door to a bottomless pit. Out of it comes a deadly army of locusts.

Apocamon: Episode 3 - Attack of the Locusts was released in 2003. This episode focuses on the events following the release of the army of locusts. In Farley's tale, the locusts have the shape of flying red scorpion with human faces. They attack all the sinners of the world (starting with a CEO). They poison all of them with their sting. Despite the extreme pain, no one can be killed or commit suicide. Each one has to endure the pain. As the UN take over, under the guidance of ex-President Clinton, the sixth trumpet can be heard, revealing a duo of monsters at the bottom of the sea...

Apocamon: Episode 4 - Charge of the Lion-Horses is currently being serialized.
