Stan Sakai

Stan Sakai is a third generation American of Japanese
descent. He was born in Kyoto, Japan, grew
up in Hawaii and is presently living and working
in Los Angeles, California. He studied
fine Arts at the University of Hawaii and
attended later the Art Center College of Design
in Pasadena.
Sakai began his career by
lettering comics like Groo the Wanderer by Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier or Epic Illustrated. He even lettered the recent limited series Groo: Hell On Earth.
Sakai became famous with the
creation of the epic saga Usagi Yojimbo,
first published in 1984 in Albedo Anthropomorphics published by Thoughts and Images.
As of this day, Sakai is still
continuing the series as the lone author, doing almost
all the artwork himself, except for a few stories here and there illustrated by Sergio Aragones. Tom Luth serves as the colorist for every cover of Usagi Yojimbo.
For his work,
including but not restricted to Usagi
Yojimbo, Sakai received several Eisner Awards,
Haxom Awards, an Inkpot Award and others.
His work on Usagi Yojimbo is showcased in Adventures Into Digital Comics.
