Mike Mignola

Mike Mignola is an American comic book writer and artist. He started his career publishing comics in the fanzine The Comic Reader in 1981—a full page art of Red Sonja. It was followed shortly thereafter with his first cover for the fanzine.

In 1983 he was employed as an inker by Marvel Comics, where he worked on various series such as Power Man & Iron Fist, Daredevil and The Defenders.  In 1985 his own comic mini-series Rocket Raccoon was published by Marvel.

From 1986 onward, he worked on titles such as The Chronicles of Corum, Phantom Stranger, World of Krypton, Cosmic Odyssey, Ironwolf: Fires of the Revolution, Triumph and Torment, Gotham by Gaslight, Wolverine: the Jungle Adventure and Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser.  During these years, Mignola worked with several writers, such as Walter Simonson, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

In 1993, he did the artwork for Dracula and Aliens: Salvation. Mignola also worked as a designer on Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula released in 1992.

Halfway through the nineties, he created his own character, Hellboy, a comic series that allowed him to display the full range of his talent. Hellboy follows the supernatural stories of a demon that was brought to Earth as an infant bu Nazi occultists. Since the launch of the series, Mignola has mostly worked on the character and the spin-off series such as BPRD, Lobster Johnson and more.

Mignola also continued working for the film industry, first as a production designer for Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Guillermo Del Toro's Blade II. Mignola is also invested in the Hellboy film franchise, also directed by Del Toro.
