Kurt Busiek is an American comic book writer, born in 1960. He
started writing comics in 1982, with a backup story
in Green Lantern #162 for DC Comics and fill-in issues of Power Man And
Iron Fist for Marvel.
Busiek worked his way through a decade on
fill-ins, one-shots and short runs on such series as Red Tornado, Liberty Project, Vampirella,
TeenAgents, Valor and Night Thrasher.
His breakthrough series was the award-winning 1993 Marvels mini-series, which he did with
painter Alex Ross. The duo worked again together pretty quickly on Busiek's creator-owned series Astro City, published by Homage/WIldstorm.
In 1997, Busiek took over Iron Man and Avengers for the Marvel Comics' Heroes Return event. He stayed a long time on Avengers, working with different artists such as George Pérez, Alan Davis and Kieron Dwyer. Busiek and Pérez were also the creative team behind the JLA/Avengers limited series. In 1997, Busiek also launched Thunderbolts for Marvel, the first super-hero team with an etnire cast of... super villains.
In 2003, Busiek was an essential element for the relaunch of the Conan comic book for Dark Horse Comics. His first issue, Conan #0 won an Eisner for Best Single Issue. Busiek stayed on the series for around two years before signing an exclusive two-year deal with DC Comics.
For DC, Busiek became the regular writer for Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis and Superman, following an 8-issue arc co-written with Geoff Johns. Busiek has recently been reunited with his Thunderbolts partner, Mark Bagley, for DC's new weekly series, Trinity, starring Superman, Batmana nd WOnder Woman.
Kurt Busiek's work on Astro
City and Conan is showcased in Adventures Into Digital Comics.
